One card, not three

If you remember buying separate "App Store & iTunes" and "Apple Store" cards, that distinction is largely gone. Apple merged them into a single Apple Gift Card in 2020 across most markets. The balance sits on the Apple Account and is spent on whatever Apple sells in that country.

Crypto marketplaces have not entirely caught up with the naming. You will still see listings called "iTunes Gift Card", "App Store & iTunes" and "Apple Gift Card" side by side, sometimes at different prices for the same underlying product. Read the description, and prefer the listing that names the storefront country explicitly.

Face value is normal on major regions, so the tie-breakers are the network fee and the rebate — which again points at Bitrefill over Lightning. Coinsbee is the better option for smaller storefronts.

The Apple ID country rule

An Apple Account has a country or region that determines the storefront, the currency and which gift cards it accepts. The important detail for gift buyers is the change mechanic: Apple requires the account balance to be spent to zero before the country can be changed.

That creates a trap. If you redeem a mismatched card and it somehow lands, or if you have leftover credit in an old storefront, you cannot switch countries until the balance is gone — and you cannot spend it because the storefront you want is the other one. Match the country from the start.

• Buy the listing that names that exact country and currency
• For a gift to someone abroad, buy the smallest denomination first and confirm it redeems

The warning that matters more than the fees

We include this on a page about buying cards with crypto for a specific reason: crypto buyers are a disproportionate target for the "buy cards and send the codes" script, because they are already comfortable with irreversible payments. The same instinct that makes an on-chain transfer feel routine makes reading out a gift-card code feel routine, and the two are equally unrecoverable.

Redeeming an Apple gift card code

1. On iPhone or iPad App Store → profile icon → Redeem Gift Card or Code. Camera entry works, but pasting is more reliable for a digital code.
2. On Mac App Store → your name → Redeem Gift Card.
3. Confirm the balance The Apple Account balance should update immediately and show in the storefront currency.
4. Set it to cover subscriptions Balance is normally used before a card on file, so existing subscriptions will start drawing on it at the next renewal.
