The billing rule that voids the card
This is the whole story with Netflix gift cards and it is almost never mentioned on the marketplace product page. A Netflix gift card can only be applied to an account that Netflix itself bills.
A very large share of Netflix accounts are billed by somebody else — because the subscription was started inside an app, or bundled with a phone contract, or included in a pay-TV package. In those cases Netflix does not hold the payment relationship, cannot see a payment method, and has nowhere to apply a prepaid balance.

How to check in ten seconds: open Netflix account settings and look at the membership and billing section. If it names a third party, that third party is the biller. If it shows a card or bank details, Netflix is the biller and the gift card will work.
